Summary: Introduction: stress is inherent in the nurse's work and its chronicity directly impacts health in terms of biopsychosocial aspects, in addition to negatively inferring with the organization and the quality of care provided by this professional. On the other hand, the promotion of well-being at work favors improvements at the individual and organizational levels. Progressive muscle relaxation is a nursing intervention that affects the individual with physiological and behavioral responses. Thus, the introduction of this technology in the work environments of these professionals is important and challenging, since it makes it possible to reflect on improvements for institutions and individual health, as well as in the care provided to the patient. Therefore, in order to meet a demand from the institution in which the master's student works, it was proposed to evaluate the effect of progressive muscle relaxation on stress and well-being in the work of hospital nurses. This project is in line with the line of research on nursing care in the human development process and was developed with nurses in the emergency room and hemodynamics, sectors WHERE the master's student is inserted. Objective: Develop an assistance protocol for the promotion of occupational health using progressive muscle relaxation and evaluate its effect on stress levels and well-being in the work of hospital nurses. Develop an instrument for evaluating an occupational health promotion program. Methodology: a prospective, quantitative intervention study, which followed, for eight consecutive weeks, 16 nurses from a hospital who self-reported stressed at work. The care protocol and instrument for evaluating the occupational health promotion program were developed through a literature review and standard hospital models were adopted to facilitate implementation. For data collection, a structured questionnaire was used containing sociodemographic and professional variables; Work Stress Scale; Scale of Well-being at Work, upon entry into the protocol and after its completion. For data analysis, the Shapiro-Wilk, Wilcoxon, Sperman and Mann-Whitney tests were used with a 5% significance level, using the Statistical package for Social Sciences - SPSS (version 19.0). Results / Products: two products were developed: an assistance protocol to promote occupational health using progressive muscle relaxation consisting of eight PMR sessions and an instrument for evaluating the occupational health promotion program. There was a reduction in the average level of stress (60/55 p=0.166) and an increase in the average level of well-being factors at work - positive affect, negative affect and achievement (3.22 / 3.42 p=0.073; 2.07 / 2.29 p=0.094 and 3.71 / 3.92 p=0.060), respectively. Conclusion: the use of a progressive muscle relaxation protocol provided a reduction in the average level of stress and promoted well-being at work. In addition, the technique used is simple, low-cost, self-applicable and feasible in the work environment, which requires little time from the worker to perform and has a significant impact on the development of their work activities, and can be applied at the local, regional, national and international levels. After copyright registration, the products will be made available to the institution.
